Dhaka, March 31, 2008 - Novartis (Bangladesh) Limited awarded the National Export Trophy - Gold for the years 2002-2003 and 2003-2004.

On the 31st of March, 2008 the Export Promotion Bureau, the national export promotion wing of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, awarded Novartis (Bangladesh) Limited with the National Export Trophy – Gold for the years 2002-2003 and 2003-2004. For Novartis (Bangladesh) Limited this was a phenomenal feat on the eve of its 35th anniversary in the Bangladeshi market.

With 35 years of success and achievements that have been recognized and highlighted by various external institutions, today Novartis (Bangladesh) Limited has been recognized as the highest exporter of Pharmaceutical products in the country and this is a matter of pride and realization that our past decisions and actions have been the right ones and we have achieved a great feat for which we, not just Novartis (Bangladesh) Limited but Novartis as a whole should rejoice as this is a testament to our success and efficiency in strategically approaching and implementing our various business plans and programs in the Health Care business and evolving into the business might we are today. This also gives us the opportunity to strengthen our humble and simple plight to serve pour patients with care to be able to cure them while being empathetic, innovative and scientific.

Often, amongst the general people of Bangladesh we get to hear the distressed comments about our failure to develop. We say look, today Bangladesh is not just a country that exports ready made garment and other non technical jute products or food items but we are also a major exporter of highly technical and advanced and qualitative products such as pharmaceuticals.

As the first EU GMP certified pharmaceutical production facility, Novartis (Bangladesh) Limited thoroughly knows the challenges and obstacles to such a competitive and regulated business. We have maintained our exports in the industry in a sustainable manner and have been the leading exporter in the country since 1996. With export figures that vastly outclasses our competitors, it is just and a welcome relief that our hard work and passion for excellence has brought us this esteemed recognition.

At the National Export Trophy Award ceremony held at the Osmani Memorial Hall in the capital, two trophies were received by the Country President and Head of Sandoz, Mr. Ashfaque ur Rahman for the years 2002-2003 and 2003-2004.

With recent coverage in the news papers regarding the importance of the pharmaceuticals sector and the staggering 47% growth in the face of economic uncertainty and a global recession, we are pound to have posted the highest export figures in 2007, beating closest competitor by more than 5.5 times. This is a testament to our solidarity and sincerity and the fact that with our strong team we will be able to take such strides on a sustainable manner in the future.
