Dhaka,
April 26, 2007 -
CPD this year offered a
palate of activities and thoughts to get engaged in. We
celebrated CPD at the Dhaka Project for the second year in a
row. Founded by Maria Concaecao, a Dubai based stewardess of
Emirates Airlines, the project has come a long way from its
humble but inspirational beginnings. The Dhaka Project with
their charismatic leader and a dedicated management team,
has achieved a tremendous feats in the past few years. With
over one thousand rehabilitated children depending on them
on a day to day basis, the project has taken a sincere step
and has made quite a big difference in the lives of these
children.
Over
the last two years we have witnessed considerable positive
changes in the children, the staff and the environment in
which the project nurtures the children, as they look
healthier, more positive and aesthetically improved compared
to the last time we all visited them last year.
There
were many activities in this years CPD. Tree plantations at
the Dhaka Project School site was an important event which
gave the children an opportunity to learn to act responsibly
in order to be able to sustain our environment. This was a
very valuable lesson considering the accelerating rate of
pollution and global warming. Associates also helped the
children in improving the environment in which they stay by
painting the walls of their premises with children and
building sturdy chairs and table for them to use. The
younger groups participated in a story telling session where
the children and the Associates shared stories and the
children were given short lessons on global warming, the
need for responsible behavior, philanthropy and many other
important issues. Many children at this story telling
session sang for the Associates and recited poems. A group
of children also enjoyed some pot painting. These pots at
the end of the even looked quite colorful and decorative.
After
lunch the Country President presented the Dhaka Project with
books and relevant materials. CPD truly provides a stage for
not only the company but also individual Associates to
partner with the community.
Maria started the Dhaka project two years ago, for children
and families living in the slums of Bangladesh. This huge
not-for-profit initiative raises funds via the internet and
supplies vital resources and skills training.
